For the first time I have got an opportunity to have an internship at a local software development team and they are asking for program samples now... I am a little nervous because I have never shown my code to anyone who understands anything of coding and I have no idea how it would do in an interview...

They probably know nothing about programming, don't think about them or about their reaction, be yourself and make something that works

You are probably right, these guys just dont know me yet and want to see some genuine code by myself.

I think my main (and only) project is a bit too big to send them though.. I will try to make some short programs with exerpts of it. Thanks for encouraging me 😅💪

No! Send in your larger project. They want to see commitment and passion. You are only applying for an internship they don't expect you to be able to know what you are doing they want to see commitment. But that advice must be considered based on where you are in the world.

hm good point. I will give them the link to my github where they can see the code samples working in a larger project.
I feel like otherwise it might overwhelm them because my large project is a lot of different stuff tied together.
