so it appears for the immediate future I'm stuck working a good enough to pay the bills with a little left over helpdesk job until I find some sort of junior or associate dev gig.

I graduated this past spring and had to take something, so in the meantime, advice on how to land the first get my foot in the door actually programming gig?

Where you from? Are there no junior openings in your area?

If not, you could try a recruiter.

@morgh FL, there are "junior" ads but they are all from 1 to 3 years. some "associate" or "entry level" but few and far between. I'm trying to meet with a recruiter later this week, cheers!

@TonySnark Have you done any interviews yet? I don't know if it's the case in the states, where I'm from there's a shortage of devs. People get jobs quiet easily.

Also be weary of recruiters, they can be quite agressive and dishonost. Consult the internet/reddit on how to deal with them.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes :)

Started out in help desk and found ways to code / script solutions.
Got noticed by a company needing a QA with dev experience and we took a chance on each other. launched pretty well from there.

Never stop coding if you enjoy it.
