Just saw a junior engineer role that requires 7years of experience. Some people will not make it to Heaven.

Basically is a mid level/senior that accepts junior salary

Attempting to get some sort of job as a junior dev. Can’t land it. Frustrating indeed.

Is it just experience or professional experience?

I think there is a difference, but not sure.

    A heuristic:

    1. Seven years ago, did you have a gmail account? Yahoo or Hotmail users need not apply.

    2. Seven years ago, did you make something with jQuery UI?

    3. Seven years ago, if somebody said Ajax would you have thrown a blank?

    4. Seven years ago, did you know who Paul Irish was and did you download the boilerplate?

    5. Seven years ago, if somebody said “Firebug” did you spontaneously start smiling?

If you answered yes to all these questions - apply here, you’re at the very least a junior dev.

@GMR516 Just apply to everything and anything, I got my first job applying for a senior role.. not saying it will work every time but.. it doesnt hurt the worst thing they can do is say no!

@alex6N5 Any tips for applying? Thanks btw.

@GMR516 as far as applying goes.. just make sure your portfolio is good and that you have a github with a few projects in it even if they are just simple! Another good thing to do is if it’s a small agency just call them and ask if they’ve filled the position and that you want to apply, every job I’ve gotten is just by calling up and enquiring.. When you get an interview my biggest tip and I can’t stress this enough is confidence, now I don’t mean go in there and act like you know everything be confident in the fact you don’t know everything, that you are a junior developer but that you are willing to learn, if your getting interviewed by an actual developer they can definitely tell when someone is passionate and keen to learn and that goes a long way in the decision making process about hiring someone.

I've seen an Intern role on Google that requires working towards PhD

@kunashe What if you were not a webdev?

@Chlodovechus They might pay their interns very well though, and it might lead to an even better paid position after completing the PhD.

@bittersweet I'm not sure about non-web dev. Perhaps someone with the necessary background can come up with a heuristic.

Gotta be an Uber Junior role, I’d never hire a junior developer with less than 20 years experience

    @KuMa 😑 you're even worse

Heaven: we have a lot of open positions up here so don't worry!

    At the entrance to heaven:

Sorry, you require experience of at least 200 years in order to enter.
