YES! Fuck it for real.
In my first oop java class we started out using bluej. It‘s shit.
Luckily by then I already knew intellij and it was not a hard requirement to use bluej.
But seriously, If I in the first place was taught java/oop via bluej, i would have had a lot more trouble understanding it because it oversimplifies some important concepts which you then don‘t understand how it really works.

We also used BlueJ as a first IDE. If you know a little bit of programming its total shit.
But if you never coded its fine i think.

Lol I like how you guys say it's good for kids, I used it in my first paper at university, we used to have to code specific things for Karel the robot, definitely a good way to develop ideas on how to logical think of solutions. We had puzzles to pick up a cone or navigate a path way.

In terms of getting the basis for learning programming and logic behind it, it definitely worked.
