A guy made fun of me for using Linux because I couldn't use Photoshop.

I made fun of him because he actually bought it.

    Photoshop is technically already on linux. Its written in c so. The only reason they haven't ported it is money. Plys so many free versions of software that do same thing gimp and others have replaced photoshop. Anyone still using photoshop is behind the evolutionary curve.

    @skprog True, tbh I like the photoshop UI but now I'm using GIMP and Inkscape and I can litterally do everything I was doing on PS.

    @skprog
    Do you have any idea what you are talking about? GIMP isn't anywhere close to replacing Photoshop in the professional sphere. Same thing with Illustrator, InDesign etc. And all of Premier's competition is non-free and not available on Linux.

    The only good thing FOSS has that can compete with Adobe's CC stuff is in audio production. And even there they're only viable for semi-professional situations.

    There's nothing wrong with buying software if it improves your efficiency.

    @imacat For professionnal purposes, ok. He bought it while we are still students and we can use those softwares for free in our school, I should have said that, my bad.

    I bought Photoshop and I use Windows because like %90 of the world's population, I use my computer to get stuff done.

    I keep my Linux fiddling and hobby to my Raspberry Pis.

    I hope you're drunk. Please tell me you're drunk... @santartine

    @intromatt Not drunk, just saying we don't need expensive softwares to do what our school asks us to ;)

    + opinions I guess

    Then buy Serif's software... It's not quite Photoshop but it's 400000000000000000000000000000x better than Gimp and you can find it for about $50 (I bought Affinity Photo and Designer for under $100 both..a fucking bargain of the century). @santartine

    i use a Mac and Pixelmator, way better than photoshop for everything I need. Slick and fast, Mac only though.

    Pixelmator is actually a really great app, really great..but comparing it to Photoshop is incredibly disingenuous, especially if you are a serious designer. (If you ware on a budget, I cannot recommend Affinity's software...it's incredible for the money). @helloworld

    @intromatt the recent pro version takes it up a notch though. I have Affinity also but find myself using pixelmator way more

    @intromatt Maybe when I'll actually earn money, I'm still in debt.

    @skprog
    Oh, and as for you claim that Photoshop is already "on Linux" because "it's written in C", that's not how that works. Probably a lot of it is dependent on windows.h/macOS APIs. And on a lot of libraries only available on Windows/macOS.

    To port it to Linux you'd have to completely rewrite (and maintain) *at least* the I/O part of the program to work with X11.

    @tiberius1900 If I'm correct, with PlayOnLinux and Wine you can run Photoshop on Linux (well, on a windows sandbox, but it works). I just heard it doesn't run well on intel graphics.
