Built a Media server using emby and then realized that one of my old TV shows with only 5 seasons was taking 129GB of storage space and I would need to transcode them, did my research and decided to use VP9 for the codec (YouTube, native browser support, etc.) found that it reduced my shows size to 51GB with great quality still. And then found out that emby doesn't allow direct play of VP9 on browsers and it's transcoding back to H264 Everytime I watch it. Submitted a issues, we'll see what happens now.

Update: It was doing it because of the audio codec Im using. They are fixing it for the next release :)

That’s frustrating! It’s always annoying when you put in the effort to set up a media server, only to hit unexpected playback issues. Have you tried remuxing the file instead of re-encoding?

Building a media server is such a cool project! It’s always frustrating, though, when you run into missing content or compatibility issues. I’ve had similar experiences trying to organize my library, especially with older shows that aren’t easily available. When it comes to streaming, I also keep up with live sports, and that’s how I came across sportsnet https://sportsnet.pissedconsumer.com/... It’s been a solid option for catching games, but just like with personal media setups, finding the right platform really depends on what content you need. Have you found any good workarounds for missing files on your server? Always looking for new tips!
