So my annoying roommate, an upcoming musician & I got into an argument, and although that happens quite often, today was different.

We were talking about 💰, and he said "money is everyone's motivation". I completely disagreed and now I'm bringing it to my fellow ranter's.

I know it's 'a motivation' but is it that big of one?

I'd say that it's a big motivation until you earn enough to focus on something else. But no matter how optimistic you are, if you can't afford a place to live, you won't go far.

Money is nothing compared to acceptance. If you don't have enough money, you are not accepted by society. Money is a key, but not the lock itself.

It is. At least for me. Since money means that I would get to live happier.

No, really. In my case, all I want to do is be close to my child, a job has a goooood chance of being unfulfilling or just about making someone else richer. Not having money = requiring a job and having a job = less family time. And to be honest everything sucks less when you are crying in your 400k house....on your flipping pool.....while watching your 70inch flat screen sipping on beer brought from Belgium.

So yeah, big motivator. I don't want to work for someone else all my life since I do not think anyone is worth my family time.

@Rabbyte I completely agree. It's kinda like that for me.

It's important to have enough money to live comfortably enough, have the occasional special treat, and save/invest for an earlyish retirement.

Once that's in place, money becomes pretty irrelevant, life's all about the other stuff.

Money is an artificial concept used to bring order to chaos. In our society it is a means to do certain things. If I leave my job for higher pay would I have to work longer hours or deal with risk, high stress, travel more, etc?
