I have to make a hard decision. Either I choose to aim for a woman I knew from before first grade or aim for a programmer that I met on a joint project. It's a very hard decision and I need insight. For both people I only have mutual realations.

    I would say try to get to know both of them as friends and try to figure out how you are as friends, as this usually dictates how you would be in a real relationship.

    Formulate a differential equation for it
    Than use concept of convex optimisation, to get to the best result
    The answer might be probabilistic , but it will give you a better Outlook to the problem

    Just a thought:
    While you already know “Programmer Gal” knows just that, there could be the possibility that “Gal you knew since x” might one day want to learn programming.
