We have people from all different types of backgrounds here on DevRant, and I feel like lots of us just kind of spontaneously discovered the dev world without really planning on it.

That makes me wonder, what did you major in during college, and is it related to what you're doing now? Did you major is Computer Science/Software Engineering/Web Development, or something completely different?

I double-majored in Algebraic Geometry and Astrophysics, and while my math background does come in handy as a developer, I'm very rarely applying what I actually specialized in to my dev work

I'm double majoring in IT (with a minor in Cyber security) and CS.

I always liked computers from the time I had access to them, so I knew my degree choice was definitely in this field; just never knew what it was specifically. Over the years, it flucuated between repairing computers/tech support and game dev.

A few years ago I discovered HTML and CSS. Really liked it, but wanted to do more than just websites. And that's where programming comes in to play.

I decided to tack on the IT degree since I was getting an IT minor from the start. (The degree was just a few more classes than the minor, so maximizing my opportunities.)

I was sick as fuck as a child, spending months at home sick. So when I was six instead a of the ball that all the Italians receive around that age I received a commodore64 for my birthday.

    Deal done that moment.

My majors were English (very useful for dev) and Music.

I've struggled with maths at university but got through it somehow.

English is an advantage since I'm a lot more comfortable with it then many of my fellow students, and since I ended up in a group where people are from all over the world, it's a plus.

Music is just nice to relax to and can take the mind of things. It helped me to stay more open minded.

I got into dev when my parents signed me up for a lego mindstorms workshop when I was 12 or so. I got very passionate about robotics then, and am studying mostly robotics.

I wouldn't say that I'm a great programmer though. The early years have been hard, and I get frustraited easily. Also I lack motivation whenever I have to code something which is not robots... so... yeah. Need more practise...
