This I call a perfectly drunk computer.

I think the number of files present were too large that the system could not count all of 'em at once. Am I even right?
Note : This is a college computer

    @noveusurp Ah. That I didn't know.

    It happens sometimes when you hit some circular links in filesystem. Then it will copy until all free space is gone...

    More professionally known as an overflow. But drunk sounds more interesting

    @millido True. Every computer in the college runs on Fedora, some on Ubuntu and there are a handful that are dual booted with windows.

    Fun fact : Most students don't use windows regularly except for certain tasks that are not fully supported in Linux yet. eg: Gaming. I myself haven't touched windows since about a year.

    @AlgoRythm Thanks for mentioning the professional term. Does it happen while copying large number of file?

    @silverstar I would research overflow. Start off with integer overflows, they're the most common. Then research buffer overflows.

    It's a generic type of error, not something that is specific like copying files.

    @AlgoRythm Sorry that I didn't research it in the first place.

    @noveusurp Yes I'm aware that Linux fully supports gaming except that many games are not available on Linux as compared to Windows. Yeah MS sucks
