Why would anyone even use WinRAR? GNU zip for Linux / 7zip for Windows

@systemctl I've used it since I was very little and never moved on from it. But I might just switch fully to 7 ZIP because that God awful "buy me" window is making me want to jump off a bridge

I don't even know why you would pay money for something that deals with archives these days.

@systemctl 7zip is available for linux

@stop I know, but I wouldn't see a need for it on Linux.

@systemctl This. I even used 7zip as main software when I was still a windows user!

That is actually a too narrow question and the answer is very probably yes.

However, there's a slightly different question that has a very interesting answer: why does WinRAR offer a trial period that can always be renewed (its end is never enforced)?

What would be a reason to use it in 2018? Seriously.
