    I already had contact with assembler during my studies many years ago (hardware near programming course).
    Sure, it was complicated... but somehow fascinating (knowing what's going on under the hood). I always wanted to work with assembler again and start learning x86 assembly.

    (Though x86 specifically is kind of awful.)

    I recommend asking @FrodoSwaggins for input and advice. He's one of the most knowledgeable low-level people here.

    Nah, it is not that hard. Just get started with a simple RISC assembly, and when you fully understand it and can write fairly complex programs, move to a more complex assembly like x86
