** Trigger warnings: depressing stuff **

So, y'all remember how last week I got accepted in uni, right?

So, in the instructions for accepting the acceptance (AKA matriculation) I had to send a few doccos back. Deadline for these stuff to arrive: 14 days.

So I sent the stuff in five days (time-zone difference technically makes it four days), given that there was also a weekend in between, Aus Post promises a 2-4 days express delivery, so it should all be good by now, right?

Wrong.

I have less than half a week left, tracking the package online says it hasn't even landed in the destination country but it has left this country, rang up post office, they say it's not lost and will arrive soon and I shouldn't resend the doccos, I'm panicking, already emailed uni saying that it's not my fault but it's gonna be late but didn't receive any response.

And it was while grinding the potatoes for dinner that it hit me.

I'm done. I said 2018 is gonna be a good year, but it hasn't really been. I'm just about to lose all my hope in life, I have not had a decent job offer in the past six months, I got into uni but am about lose it to fucking post (for an infotech course, can you believe it? "Practice what you preach" mofo), I haven't really connected with a soul and feel like a burden with my friends and family (side effects of depression, I know, but it gets hard to push the thoughts away after a while) and I don't have any close friends physically/locally near me, my health has improved in the past six months yet I still have to keep an eye on everything or it's back to square one. So what do I have left? I don't feel lost, I feel like I'm at the end of the road...

And that's when the grinder lightly cut my finger.

Great. Now I'm bleeding from where I shouldn't.

P.S. Here is a duggo to make up for your efforts to read through this:

    Hug?
    The best advice I can give you is that you shouldn't delay the inevitable. It only becomes more painful.

    @fuck2code

    LoooooL.
    Alright, I'll keep that in mind whenever I considered suicide.
    (joking)

    @NoMad well, I was referring ro crying in bed but I guess that works too

    @fuck2code

    Why would I cry? I'd rather binge watch TV shows... Oh shit, Tor browser is playing up and videos don't load... I'll binge watch YouTube shit then. :shrug:

    Resend the documents as Express / Priority / Airmail ; Good luck!

    @elcore

    The first one was express too.

    @NoMad You can use all three services together, at least in Germany. It's worth asking!!

    @NoMad well I'd probably install arch but i'm a weirdo :P

    NoMad, I know it's easier said then done, but don't worry! I'm sure they'll arrive in time and everything will work out

    @olback

    I actually like that. Virtual hugs sometimes get out of hand.

    But in this specific case, and from anyone else I regularly communicate with, it's alright.

    @olback i'm actually thinking of making a hugbot for devrant. People can subscribe to it and withing a few hours when they post their rant they'd get a hug. They could also do sth like
    @HugBot !!sendhugsto @NoMad

    *hug* the admins may understand.

    I very highly recommend eating the international calling cost and placing a phone call to the school, so you can explain what happened to a person. There's little evidence that your email ever came under someone's eyes.

    Hopefully the university will be flexible about this if the docs arrive late. They want students (it's their source of money), so they shouldn't exclude you immediately because of this.

    Good luck. I hope you are accepted.
  • 2
    Well, i send you my best wishes and hope you'll do okay.
  • 3
    I need update on this
  • 3
    They don’t allow sending stuff by email? And 14 days? That’s a fucking joke.
  • 4
    Does the uni actually look for the date of arrival or do they, like in most cases I know, look at the date of the post stamp? So you at least have evidence of sending the docs in time.
  • 3
    @Sarkkhan right on! Typically things are decided by when something is posted.
  • 0
    It's the post date that matters.

    If the letter is lost, email them the receipt you got when you sent it and send it again.

    People at uni's are people too and mostly are not assholes. Even if the secretariat staff is rude sometimes. :P

    So this is the last thing that should get you depressed.

    In the application it says they should have received matriculation stuff by the deadline or they consider the offer rejected.

    That is one cute doggie. haha

    Don't have any advise regarding you package, but if you want someone to talk to you can chat me up :)

    Sending virtual hug and hoping all turns out alright.

    @yzhea

    Much appreciated! 💕

    Is there anything we as a community can do? We're a worldwide community, so for sure someone lives in the destination vountry, right? Would it be an option to scan the documents, send it to a member in that country, have them send it and you'll write an accompaning note: sorry for sending it that way the original got delayed by post...? (It's not Switzerland you're sending it to by any chance?)
  • 2
    @Wack

    Would be, if only they didn't require certified copies. 😞
  • 2
    I'm just trying to live in denial and forgetfulness right now. This is unfair to me, the deadline specifically, as someone who lives on the other side of the planet.
  • 2
    @NoMad therefore attach an accompaning letter, explaining the situation, if the tracking has a public url, attach it too, so they can see it (otherwise attach a screenshot). Basically tell them, look fuckers it's on the way. To make sure I'll meet the deadline, this is the best I can do. You'll get them, but for now this is what you'll have to live with until the propper copies arrive.

    @NoMad sending all the virtual love I have *hug*

    @Wack
    Already sent an email on (their) Thursday night with exactly the same stuff you mentioned. No reply yet. Monday is a holiday for them, and the deadline is Wednesday.

    I'm waiting for a miracle.

    Thanks for hugs. 🙂

    Maybee there's a devRanter studying there too and they could walk into the office on tuesday? I'm not giving up on you getting accepted there!

    Btw. Let's hope this doesn't happen to your package: In the next episode of when will my package arrive.... https://9gag.com/gag/azXKvxK/...

    @NoMad.. University will generally be flexible about the dates. But one question what I have is, why didn't they ask you to send scanned copies of your docs and later they could have verified those with the originals when you'll be there personally? In any ways, don't worry. Like one of the fellow ranter mentioned, they need students and they'll get back to you.

    Best advice I got from others for depression is shit. Only thing that actually calmed me down was playing badminton. I did it for about 5 days a week. I'm shit in it. It's a good way to fight depression for me though. You might need to find one yourself. (Not doing that now)

    Good luck.
