Boss: "How much time do you get this bug fixed?"
Me: "Give me 20 minutes"
*4 hours later*
Me: "fixed is in the repository"
Boss: "You're getting to much time to do your assignments"
Me: *Damn it*

I suck doing estimates 😥

I know the feels. Except my boss is used to it by now since we all do it. Starting to wonder if any dev can make accurate estimates.

Always give estimates in hours. Minimum 4. 2 hours if you are really confidant.

Always triple any honest estimate you make. I mean real honest one, something you're confident about. Triple the amount. Always.

This morning I fixed a bug in about 30 minutes...After deployment, coffee, twitter, 3 more tangential-but-critical bug fixes, coffee, and another deployment -- well, the day was mostly gone.

This is why I always try to give estimates in half-day increments.

how is it possible to make a n accurate estimate of a bug, you can only make one for fixing after you find it.

Join the club :( The only time I can give accurate estimates is when I know the code inside out and just worked with it. And then still...
