I have to choose between a couple of optional classes in my course. Although I'm more into the filmography side, I love coding.. now We have a. Umber of optional subjects, and we have to choose two. I have chosen Motion Graphics as one, now I want to know whether I should take Java as a second class.

is it something I can learn on my own like I learnt PHP, JS, Swift? Or is it something that will really require a class?

If it's something I can do on my own, I can consider taking another class related to cinema.

I thought it myself when I was 15, so ye, it is an easy language to start with. There are a lot of good books out there. I used "Java ist auch nur eine Insel 7", for Java 7. The book is in German tho.

Once you really understand OOP, Java becomes super easy!

A degree course shouldn't be about a specific syntax, but should be training you how to think and how to solve some of the classic computer science problems.

@ChrisCooney my course is Multimedia, so it's more on the Film and Animation side, however as New Media becomes popular, they have added Web Design and Development into the course (although I already know it) in addition to that, they have added basic Java as a Minor subject and Advance Java as an optional Elective. I am required to take two electives, I am going with Motion Graphics as one however I was considering Advance Java as second but am not sure if it would be a good choice.
