So apparently there's going to be some sort of "link tax" for creating hyperlinks to other peoples websites.

What's next is the EU government going to start requiring people to register a license to run a webserver on their computer?

    Actually, it isn't hyperlinks as in "a href". It's about snippets that offer a preview of the linked content.

    Of course, even then it's stupid because people won't use snippets anymore, which will harm visibility and thus backfire on exactly those link targets who are supposed to profit.

    @Fast-Nop what counts as a snippet? Like if I link to a news story and use the headline as the anchor text does that count?

    @DuckyMcDuckFace AFAIK, that's not defined in the EU regulation and will be left to the national legislature.
