Anyone knows how to start a hard drive without power supply?
I'm hacking a few old disks and don't want to use a full power supply

Just use a Y cable from the PSU of your PC.

You mean jump start a power source? No, I already have a old one with the jumpers to use it stand alone but I would perfer something smaller , maby a 12v charger or something, but the hdd won't work without a command, and it only works a few seconds with the jumper, then turns off

@RodrigoF No, I mean just using a cable from your regular PC's power supply. You know, with these cables with four wires where you attatch HDD and DVD drive, and 20 years ago, floppy drives.

Unless you are with a laptop, then of course this is not an option, but then you won't be able to attach a data cable anyway.

I can connect the cable, but the disk won't spin without commands... That's the tricky part

I think that there has to be 5V too with the same ground, and an issue that could arise is that the voltage has to be very stable. Also, the disk might need more power at startup

Thanks... After all the research your confirming. We'll I'll just make a few more tools that can use the power supply, so it's worth it (energy wise).
Now I need the z Assis for my hand milling machine...
