What are your thoughts about leaving the full time job to start freelancing?

my thoughts are "how do people build enough network to survive a freelance job?"

Be prepared for a long haul building up repeat customers.
Have a clear idea about what you're offering and avoid diluting that.
Be at your desk on time, every day.
Get dressed.
Don't say yes to every project.
Be prepared to get little to no pay for a while.
Stick with it during the bad months.

I would start freelancing before quitting, building a network before you leave. Unless you have enough money saved up to cover all your expenses while you do so.

if you're going to do that, make sure you quit on good terms. who knows, maybe your ex employer becomes your new client.
keep in mind the amount of time you put in programming is going to trimmed down to: coding, client servicing, accounting, sales, operations, and (if you're lucky) relationship )
honestly it's doable. but you have to be committed. you struggle 6-12 months day and night for a lifetime supply of awesomeness. it gets easier
