Diff is that the paid one will remain yours after the domain is expired for a little while, but the free one will be avalible for purchase/reregister as soon as the 12 months are over.

That's how they make money. Aside from that, they are great domains for use when you just need something quick. I used one for my website until I bought retrylife.ca
