I dont understand why people seem to get offended when employers/recruiters ask 'do you know XYZ'?

If you know it, say Yes.

Whats the problem?

Depending on the question, it can show the employer is not doing their homework, or they don't understand the role they are interviewing for. These can be warning signs that the company is to be avoided. Remember, interviews go both ways.
