@Condor did you mention this?
One of my final projects... To connect gas, movement, IR pir and do a all arround protection sistem. I'll build the on-off for the gas difectly in the box for the arduino, it's the easy way, since I can now make an app to control it online.

Sorry forgot the pic

    @Floydian thanks for the mention 🙂

    The project sounds cool, hope you'll be able to do it. Don't rush things though. Also what's up with all those typos all over the place 😰

    @Floydian Didn't know, thank you

    @Condor Nahh It's one of my final projects.

    I'm planing because I need structure to think and control my work flow... Since I got sick I can't follow a project trought, so I evented my own method that works with me.

    1. Define End Objectives that are real but overreach.

    2. Define midle points, projects I want to make, and projects I need to make to learn how to get to the final projects.

    I'll probably end up making a central Cpu with Arduino ou maby even BlueB. then a few Nanos with Bluetooth , each would have one or two functions.

    Basically I want to learn in two years how to make an IOT house better then what is sold, cheaper, customizable and at 20% / 30% the price one would pay for brand solutions... Then, IF I have to much work I can make simple to mount, OR If I'm lacking work I'll make them more complex so I can be hired to mount the stuff THEN I will always get some cash.

    I'm hoping I can set my own company in two years to bring one of my uncles to my home, to work with me

    Ooohhhh I see an esp8266!!
    I ve got this project in mind:
    home automation, with mesh networking!
    making all your swithes and lights and windows and whatnot talk to each other may require a lot of cable!! Let's use wireless!
    One sigle central access point may be difficult to reach from all the house... Let's use decentralized wireless!!!
    there is some protocols like 802.11s and B.A.T.M.A.N. that manage wireless ad-hoc networks... My knowledge ends there :)

    @mngr You mean like using the Arduinos also as Repeaters?
  • 0
    @GyroGearloose more or less yes.
    a mesh network is a network of peer, so there is not such thing as repeater or access point.
    every node is a repeater and client.

    @mngr LOVED IT

    So, I can stretch my home network using Arduinos and Wi-Fi shield, or It's just for use between Arduinos?
  • 0
    that is going a bit out of my knowledge...
    if you need to stretch your wifi you need a repeater (you can use an esp8266... But I am not really sure this works well...)

    you can rebuild your home network in a mesh way

    you can build a mesh network with/for the arduinos and have a bridge to connect it to the normal network

    I just googled a lot some weeks ago, that project interests me a lot, maybe I will give it more time in the future

    @mngr That also interests me... I've been having problems to find a solution to place security cameras and sensors in the places where thieves will come, like the auto caravan my parents have. With repeaters goes up to 200€ with a good latency... Let's say 40€ repeaters with good range.

    Still, I can do it with Arduino, already have one camera to test, Bluetooth, one wi-fi board and one wi-fi shield... Not one of my top projects right now, but will be for my future youtube channel

    @GyroGearloose the crucial point is the protocol between the devices!!
    I still have to understand at which level it stands... (iso osi I mean), and if you need a particular antenna, or if it just matter of firmware/driver...
    I read something about the 8266 compatibility with 802.11s in some next version...

    @mngr Well, when you finish your first prototype tell me about it, I'll love to see it and replicate

    @GyroGearloose I am a like a child, I will do such a noise when I will start working on it... 😅
  • 1
    Well, my pah had to go down to the basement, where I'm building the workshop for the machines because I was making to much noise doing the devrant logo in wood...
  • 1
    @GyroGearloose I have seen it!! the lights are genial!!
    I made one with the 3d printer!
  • 1
    @mngr Uhhh let me see it :p I'll move to 3D later since the parts cost so much more...

    Actualy the light in the basement sucks, the light I was using was from a chinese flashlight I changed to ultrabright Lipo powered

    @GyroGearloose Cmon man, that lights are awesome 😁

    look in my rants! There is a picture of it!
  • 1
    @mngr I think I got lost... what lights are you talking about?
  • 0
    @GyroGearloose The ones in the devrant logo eyes!!!!
  • 1
    @mngr AHHHHHHHHH....

    two 3mm red leds, plus 3 green 3mm LEDs . But I did my calculations wrong and already burned two... Now it looks, even more, creepier until the red light goes out
