What’re good starter projects for a Raspberry Pi? I would like to get started on hardware and I’m inclined to install recalbox or retropi (cause I love video games), but I’d also like a diy project. Maybe I’ll make a VPN...

If I had a RasPi, I'd use it to run my scripts 24/7.

@TheOct0 what scripts need to run 24/7?

@Orni Bots, small servers, Git instances... The "scripts" are referring to my node.js, Dart and Python projects.

@TheOct0 see those are the types of projects I’d like to do, so ideas or starting places are much obliged (I’m still pretty unexperienced)

@Orni My first scripts were node.js bots, for Discord and other platforms. Here, I have @Solstice.

Then I moved on to other stuff, such as APIs, small back-end projects... Generally, find something you'd like to see, and make it. That way, you have the eyes of the customer, and the eyes of the developer, which entices you to finishing it.

I have a google home, and a raspberry pi.

Now I have voice activated raspberry pi working over voice APi from google and Rpi being connected to internet to accept web hooks.

I have been working on getting the TV to accept commands from the RPI so you can imagine where this is going 😍

I'm using it as a Spotify connect server. You need additional hardware though to properly listen to music from the Pi

@StopMotionCuber Thanks for reminding me that I wanted to work with the Spotify API!

@TheOct0 Definitely check out librespot (maybe also Raspotify which is a thin layer around it to make it easier usable).
Not really stable right now, needs to be restarted every now and then, but it's working. You should compile it yourself as Spotify changed their API and the library needed changes to work.
If I have the time (and motivation) I would really like to take a look at rust and contribute to this library

Pi-hole and mediacenter. Maybe a simple server at home
