Blender.

3D modelling, UVs, texturing, animation, video editing, compositing, motion graphics, motion tracking, 2D animation, and a fucking powerful render engine? Check.
Great community? Check.
Powerful and easy scripting system? Check.
A well organized dev team? Check.
People who care about UI/UX? Check (look at Blender 2.8).
Does it compete with a major corporation that would go into sloth otherwise? Check. (If you thought M$ was shaftware wait till you see Autodesk)

There are other FOSS projects that I really like, but my vote definitely goes to Blender.

    Blender is awesome! Only thing missing is adaption by companies. If you wanna get a job in 3d modelling you need maya/3dmax/houdini. (At least thats what I heard by a couple of friends doing 3d stuff for a living)

    @gLiTcH living on the edge, aren't you?
    Though I've seen people do crazy stuff with Paint.

    @musician indeed. I'm doing a course on animation and I have to use Maya LT.
    I use Blender for other stuff though, and for some of my own projects. It's especially great for modelling.

    @gLiTcH I've used Inkscape, it's pretty nice.
    I still lstick to Adobe because I can work faster in their software. Maybe it's just because habit now, but eh.
    Been trying out the new GIMP though, they've improved it quite a bit.

    Blender's the only 3D program I ever "got". I remember using Maya once for some uni project for a couple hours because it supposedly was the "real thing". Then I gave up and went back to Blender since Maya want explicitly required. I mean, don't know about now, but Maya's UI was an absolute clusterfuck compared to Blender.

    I tried to figure out modeling and short videos for our company, but my mental health is dearer to me because the computer is frozen on rendering. Only https://imagerevolver.com/ and peace of mind. Maybe someday I will forget again that I have no sense of style and beauty and want to try it again, but definitely not in the next couple of years.
