oh yes, the testing debate... for small and simple projects tests may be pushing it, but there will always come the point where the project become so large that you can not grasp it entirely anymore. And then there will come a point where a change you make breaks something else, seemingly unrelated, and you dont notice it. tests are really only doing what you are doing when you try out your program manually, only automatically. so you test all the time, and you might consider automating certain tests. and then you could even make an art of it and get really robust, high quality software.
