A random Thought: So, let me get this straight, the programmers that went to university think that the ones that didn't went to university are incompetent and all those that didn't went to university think that all that did are incompetent, right?

    No.

    Some that didn't go to uni do assume all are incompetent, but there's not many of those asshats.

    Most that do go to uni, at least from my experience, don't give a shit.

    And I mean, why should we care how someone learns? Let the code speak for itself, not the way the coder learns to code. It's just fucking stupid to care how someone learns.

    @Stuxnet Sure, but i am talking more in the sense of, when those who went to college talk about self-made programmers, and say how they are only familiar with their specific field of practice and don't have much general knowledge about computers etc. And how self-made when talking about those that went to college think that they know more theory than have practical experience etc

    @mega6382 I'll repeat myself.

    Why give a shit what a person learned and how the hell they learned it? There's only one fucking thing that matters: YOUR CODE.

    That's it. I don't give a fuck if you're white, black, brown or covered purple fucking stripes. Poor, rich, homeless... Does not matter.

    Nothing matters other than the code.

    People that care about how someone learns is either insecure as fuck or just fucking childish.

    I'd say no, I've been a self taught programmer since middle school and I've come to know a lot of uni inexperienced people, some are not but I've noticed the ones that aren't are either self taught or they improve what they know by themselves.

    At least in my locale I know very very few good programmers who just do with what the university tells them to, some self taught programmers on the other hand tend not to know theoretical terms so well but that's not much of an impediment.

    Talk is cheap; show me the code.
    Nothing else matters.
