CodeBane7736yHow broke is broke? Anytime I've had HDD problems that windows or like Ubuntu can't see, Knoppix, Linux distribution, could.
Other than that? Dunno, urban myth and freeze it? Lol -
You can open it and try messing around with the heads...
The problem is that you have to do it in a box without dust or you are going to fuckup even more.
(A medium size box with clear window and the vaccum cleaner have worked for some people...
The other way is to transplant the plates but you need another hdd like this one and the secon one might not recognise the plates (You MUST preserve the rotation between the plates! or FUCKING RIP)
So you have only option nr1. And even that is risky... so your chances are low. Make backups next time! -
@Rundle
Head is displaced from back. It actually comes a little into space and won't touch platter. I can reset it by pushing a little on head's back.
When disk starts head tip moves on to the disk and then tip moves back and returns to its den and rotation stops. It isn't detected by system
@CodeBane
It is not recognized in BIOS
@Gregozor2121
I've opened it once without using medical gloves, though the room is air tight and dust particles should not be a problem. IF HDD IS NOT DEAD ALREADY
Whatever it takes i can get a used HDD similar to this and try replacing heads and then if it doesn't work I'll operate on platters.
It'll be cheaper and a great experience too. BTW I don't have any data which i might lose for ever. I will just have to re-download my vps backups in other case. 😅
All else really didn't matter. -
@fahad3267
You need a positive air pressure box to make sure that small pieces of your skin wont fall on that hdd.
Small tip: use a tape to stick plates together so they wont fall out of aligment. (but stick it on the side of the plate!!)
How can you recover data from a ticking harddisk (fell on ground and head is broke)?
I've contacted some persons in market but they are doing it for the price of 3 new HDDs.
Is there any chance to DIY ? Share your theories and experiences.
