What historical trends look more ridiculous now than short-form video will look in a few decades?13

The display power savings feature on Intel GPU drivers is retarded. It reduces backlight brightness when you're viewing dark content and pumps it back up when you have something white on the screen. This is the complete opposite of what you need for keeping the image viewable with minimum backlight brightness.
The dark parts of the dark image can be kept the same brightness by reducing the backlight, but the white text you're reading will actually be darker, so you need to manually set the display brighter. And then you need to reduce brightness when you switch to a white window because now that's too bright. And as a bonus, the backlight brightness will keep adjusting when you change windows, which is super distracting.1 -
RIP YouTube Vanced. It was great while it lasted. Luckily we don't need to go back to the official app on mobile, there are still alternatives that don't suck nearly as much.16

Does anyone know of some project that makes emoji render as emoticons (:D) or text (:troll:)? I would find something like that useful because emoticons look better than emoji and many emoji are so obscure that I find myself pixel peeping when I try to comprehend what they are trying to represent. Sometimes there's no other way to find out what an emoji is supposed to represent than copy-pasting it to a search engine. Very convenient.
I'm interested if anyone knows how to achieve this on any platform.8 -
How fucking hard can it be to show a simple image. Guess which app has this feature.
Images are cropped to frame, but you can tap to fit the whole image to frame instead. No way to see the image on full screen. Pinch to zoom works, but it will immediately unzoom if you let go even one finger.1 -
Make sure to check out the latest Veritasium video. It's mostly about the analog computers of the 20th century. At the end he teased that part 2 will be about using analog computers for neural networks.5

So some notification types are broken again (at least ++ notifs are not), ++ counts don't update again, search finds next to nothing, and the weekly doesn't work properly either (I saw wk288 topic once but can't find it anywhere now).
It still works better than the thing I'm currently dealing with.10 -
Is it just me or does the search find a very limited set of rants for everyone? Maybe it finds only the most recent ones?5

Seems like we are only getting ++ notifications currently. I think I should've gotten notifications for mentions and new comments on rants I've posted on since the last 12h, but I only have ++ notifications. Can anyone else confirm?22

I came across this blog (I guess) that's mostly critique about the security of major open source projects. The author claims to be a security researcher.
At least some of the claims seem to have merit, but how much? Opinions?

Your time is not limited except by birth and death. What actually defines what you do are other limitations and your priorities.

I found a spammer account with each of its about 20 comments containing a link to some fishy site. After giving -- to most of its comments I noticed that its ++ count had gone back to what it was when I started. So my use of the -- button got banned. What's the point?22

Anyone else noticed this on Chrome mobile? If you stay still long enough on a website and try to scroll up, you will refresh instead.
Maybe this is a dirty fix to some security issue?10
