Rabbits, who’d have em?

Came home and the wife told me one of the rabbits (Spencer) had been grumpy and unsociable.

Checked on him and he wasn’t being himself, not eating, not moving, repeatedly stretching his back legs etc.

Rabbits are very delicate and not eating is very serious, decided to bite the bullet and we took him to the out of hours vets.

He has high blood sugar, low temperature, and a distended tummy.

They’re keeping him in over night and estimated 7-800 for 12 hours in.

Do some research on diets for them, rabbits are very finicky and need a variety of lettuce and other things. If they stop eating and are really sick, they need to be out of the cage more and eat a healthier diet.

I hope your little man feels better!

@FrodoSwaggins thanks, they have an unlimited supply of Timothy hay and water, and they get some good quality nuggets in the morning and afternoon.

They also have unhindered access to their run for about 12-15 hours a day.

Lettuce is actually not great for rabbits, lots of water but very little nutritional value.

@zarathustra yeah, but store bought rabbit food isn’t the best either. Like i say, do some research and see if you can come up with a balanced diet for him. It’s challenging with rabbits they have sensitive stomachs.

@FrodoSwaggins thanks, in terms of them having access to an unlimited supply of hay and stuff they have that, and they also get forage, and have things to gnaw on to keep their teeth short.

They don’t get huge amounts of nuggets, but we are going to reduce the amount of nuggets they get
