piehole8106yDo some coding exercises online. https://www.codingdojo.com/ or https://www.hackerrank.com/ or something. Otherwise, not only are you gonna be bored, you'll forget everything you know. I had a period when I had to take care Jenkins BS for over a month straight, no code at all, and I felt so damned rusty...
-
CodeBane7756y@piehole yeahhh i can feel it already, the rust is building. I can't really do too much extra tho, otherwise, i feel like I'm taking the piss making them pay for my training, so to speak lol.
At least if im sitting here doing nothing, they can't say anything, you lot didn't give me shit. But tbh, dont think I can do this much longer so, gonna have a chat and see what we can do about work or contract termination siiigggghhhh.
P.S. Still want to buy some weapons of various levels of disgusting wounds for my corpse, starting with something like this: -
piehole8106y@CodeBane Dude, wtf? They are paying you for training. That's standard. If you feel bad about it, tell them that that's what you're doing. I've no idea what you goin' on about.
-
CodeBane7756y@piehole uhh its different as a contractor tho...if im not doing work then i shouldn't be here and i definitely shouldn't be investing the time their paying me for into myself.
My pride wont allow that tbh. Prefer to be bored than to be actively stealing.

Voxera115856y@CodeBane well, in my opinion they do get benefit from you doing training as when they need you, you are a little better each time, and up to speed
Its a waste if money to have you just sit there doing nothing, even for them.
Then they might be utter morons and not allow it of cause. -
CodeBane7756y@Voxera but as a contractor, surely, I should know what I need to know to do the job. Companies don't hire a contractor as investment but rather a service. They dont get benefit in me learning cos I should already know. You don't hire a plumber and expect him to be watching youtube videos on how to fix pipes.
Spending time to improve myself is effectively improving my business with money I steal from them.
It's their fault there's no work but doesn't mean people won't catch feelings if I'm doing something like that (I already know who will trigger lol).

bahua129046yDoesn't your code say anything about playing with WhatsApp and devrant while being paid? Find a new job, man.
-
CodeBane7756y@bahua hahaha don't get sarcy with me!!! Hahaha, nahh my code says that things such as WhatsApp and devRant fall into the "I'm on standby" category.
Its something that doesn't look like work so people shouldn't fret to ask me to do shit.
The money is good here tho so I'm kinda torn tbh, that's why them agreeing to terminate would be best decision cos at least I can leave on good terms (and offer not to serve my notice cos I'm such a nice person after all).
Terms of a new job, I've almost got one lined up but yeah, until then, yeah, devRant is work lol. (Surely I can just bitch and moan on here every day to stop me from committing genocide?) -
Voxera115856y@CodeBane if I hire a plummer for a specific job, yes I expect them to know.
But if I have a business where I need to have a plummer on standby I would definitely expect them to keep up on new tools or products that might hit the market while they wait.
:D
But as I said, thats just me and I know there are idiot bosses that cannot see such benefits of continuous training.
FUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK.....I'm soooooooooooooo bored.
I'm a contractor, been here 2 months, yet to write any code. All I do is WhatsApp and devRant.
Siigggghhhhh, someone shoot me.
