Does somebody know a js library to make a route network on a map, like the ones airlines use. Where you can enter/click on the departure and it displays a forced node graph of the destinations from a database. Like this: http://easyjet.com/ch-de/...
Google shows only computer network related mapping stuff *sigh*3
do know that feeling when your dreaming of just getting away for some days? I could use some of your help to get away.
In europe there is this long distance ridesharing app called www.blablacar.com but it only allows you to search for destinations you know. So I'd love to know to where there is a rideshare on that given day from my hometown.
FROM_MYCITY TO * [ALL DESTINATIONS] ON DAY
Could someone please write me a small quick and dirty piece of software / script or webapp that let me query and list that?

Virtualbox 6 sucks!
So i'm on a mac and i need some linux goodness on the quick. But the screen resolution stays at 800x600px! On my high dpi screen it's so tiny i need a magnifying glass to do anything on the guest os. And i can't change the resolution nor scale it up for the life of it. Never had that before. Really frustrating!!! 😤5
I've been a designer for 10 years now and I'm stuck and bored. So I want to do something against that. I've tried countless times to learn to code on my own and failed. Now I fantasize of going abroad for 3 months. Hire a freelance full stack web developer to teach me 1on1 mo-fri 3-4 hours on how to make webapps. I've read that Kiev, Ukraine is very affordable and on upwork there are some amazing devs from kyiv.
But I'm not sure if that's a dumb idea?
What do you think? Would you teach someone for money? Any tipps on finding a webdev? Are you or do you know someone from Kiev or Ukraine?20
gnaahhh my callendar is suddenly full of "free iphone xs" spam and i can't find that stupid invite email 😡5
Is there for the programming language "Crystal" a library called "Meth" ?

Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus tests notifications in production 😄
New programming language alarm!
The V Language sets the goal to compete with Rust and Go. It's main advantage is appearantly it's efficiency and speed. You can build a basic web server with only 65kb file size.
please i need your advice :)
I need to reform a service that offers legal advice and thus serves around 5000 Microsoft Word legal advice documents for the end user and every year there are 200 more documents created and published and changed manually.
So i had this idea to use a CMS, Git and continuous integration for
- automatic spell checking
- automatic assigning the copy text to translation bureaus, and get translations back.
- version control the texts and translations.
- document generation in multiple formats
- checking the text flow in the document (no overflown text)
- Checking for accessibility for the handy caped
- Deploying it on the Website
Do you think this is feasible? Can something that was made for code also be used to handle copy text documents? In my head this would save so much work but i'm no expert in CI/CD.
Thank you for your advice!8
Fascinating read about the inner workings of the worldwide web and gross incompetence.

Massive route leak impacts major parts of the internet
"It doesn't cost a provider like Verizon anything to have such limits in place. And there's no good reason, other than sloppiness or laziness, that they wouldn't have such limits in place."

I can't code
So 3 things i hate because i can't code. #selfrant
1. My father was a programmer in the 80-90ties. So he forced me at 11 years old to do a stupid "Java for Kids" book. You had to write sooooo much verbose code just that a stupid grey button would appear that looked ugly. I really really hated it.
2. Now I'm a graphic designer by trade. The first time I came in contact with something useful code related was in 2011. https://processing.org the generative design framework. It looked glorious! But it was in Java! I hated it.
3. I hate that i can't code because I'm dependend on you guys to get my design to become alive. Thanks to 3 years on devRant, the days arguing with a lazy dev that something can't be done is thankfully gone.7
Anybody tried Project Fugu the new browser api's from google which let's progressive webapps access the users filesystem, contacts, computer vision, nfc, geo fencing and launch other apps?
zero motivation for anything, i just want sit outside in the sun at the lake with ice cream and not in front of a screen. And not being bothered by the new vacum cleaner loud deep learning rig of the data science department in this open floor office.
I fucking forgot my noise cancling headphones. FML2

Gitfolio - generate a presentable portfolio website out of your github repo for job hunting.
Argh!!!! I'm too dumb to compare two spreadsheets. I want to know which of the 2000 employees left or joined the company since last year. But the employee spreadsheet db export is not in the same order as the last years. Is there any bash shell magic or something else than excel that could help me?12
Windows containers with Kubernetes on AWS and Azure are thing now.
What does that mean? Is it now possible to containerize system critical windows 3.1 legacy software from the 90ties (like the ticketing software at Airport Paris Orly) and orchestrate it in the cloud?
Do you know any use cases for Microsoft Windows in the cloud?2
let's try something...
Roast thread, please tag and insult your fellow devRanter in this comment section. Get creative in finding swearwords. Too many ++ bombs, poor code quality or you're just secretly in love with some other Ranter and hate it.14
uhh interesting, bing search engine algorithm open sourced.
Will anybody have a look at it?

Hertz the car rental company wanted a new website. They hired accenture. Accenture did allegedly a poor job. The site did not come with responsiveness, not with web components and 2 years over deadline. Hertz sues Accenture for $38+ million.
