This is either bad UI design or intentional bad faith.

    I would go for intentional. It's pretty easy to manipulate people to answer a certain way on a poll/form.

    And it's stupid anyway. It's not like Canadian authorities don't have databases about who has been convicted on which offences.

    @smb26 if you really have been sentenced because of something serious, then you just won't get a visa. They could as well automate the rejection.

    Not sure about Canada, but in USA I think you can get a lifetime immigration ban if you lie on any forms, whereas a previous conviction might prevent a visa now but not necessarily in the future. This is why it is always best to be honest on immigration forms.

    @nibor most countries have that which is stupid. It's feels like playing cat and mouse with someone's life and future. Plus, some things are lies while others are mistakes but for such laws there's no distinction.

    It's stupid that migration laws are always written by those who never migrate.
