They only accept credit cards now?
Those things really suck in terms of security with this stupid CVC...
I bought my OP5 after the keynote when it was revealed and used SEPA to pay. Seems like a step in the wrong direction to only support credit cards :/ -
Condor324966y@ThermalCube SEPA would've been so much better. I'm paying my hosting provider through that method as well. Sure it takes longer to arrive from A to B when doing bank transfers, but at least it's halfway decent in terms of security. And I wouldn't have to get a separate card for that!
On a different subject though, did you have to pay any import taxes when your OP5 arrived? I'm kind of worried about that, as last time I bought a phone (from China, I don't recommend it after that experience) I had to pay €40 to customs for what was a €130-ish device - 30% of the original price just for getting it past border control! I don't even want to think about the cost of that for a €630 device. -
Snob20926yIn Germany you can buy it via Credit card, PayPal, "Sofortüberweisung" and GiroPay...
Also you can get it on Amazon and pay with whatever you want... -
fthielen6296y@Condor afaik they have some warehouses in the eu. But if not, it can be possible that you have to pay the customs fee and the import vat
-
Condor324966y@wholl0p I didn't know that they're also selling it on Amazon.. doesn't look to be in stock there right now though.
-
@Condor Mine was also "shipped" from china and I expected to pay the import-tax but OnePlus shipped my phone to a warehouse in the UK and then send to me and I didn't have to pay anything.
Maybe it's a EU-thing or I just got lucky. Who knows
On a sidenote: I just looked up the Begian import-tax and it's even higher than the German one! o.O -
Snob20926y@Condor It is at least for Germany... According to your "bio" you are from Belgium, right? I thought that the ware is in stock EU-wide hmmm... If you live near the border you could order it to a German address (Paketshop) and fetch it there.. else I'm clueless
OnePlus 6T (8GB+128GB) Smartphone Midnight Black https://amazon.de/dp/B07HFDPBW8/... -
Condor324966y@ThermalCube @wholl0p Yeah, customs duty in Belgium is pretty insanely high.. I guess it's to make up for the cost of those 7 damn governments we have here. That's why I'm pretty much unable to buy anything that's more than 21 (was it 21 or 24? Not sure) euros from AliExpress for example, at least not without risking to get my package flagged by customs and having to pay up for it. Pretty anti-competitive but hey, who am I to judge, right?
Anyway, the priority shipping should take only 4 days apparently, so I guess that's from within the EU? Hopefully not from the US, that'd really suck to be honest. Apparently those packages are only charged for by 3% of the original value (supposedly) and then there's VAT as well (21 fucking %, which I paid on the fucking phone already as well!!) but the orders from the US are apparently checked more frequently than the ones from China (where you can usually even get away with stuff that's marked as cheaper than it actually is, lol).

Alright, payment.. with my bpaid card that I ranted about earlier, because apparently the fuckers accept only credit cards. External payment portal, card's got a chip.. well that's gotta be the same payment process as the usual Bancontact purchases then, right? Where you plug your card into your Digipass card reader, get a start code from the website, type that in, amount to be paid, PIN code, and then it spits out another code that you give to the payment portal.
Except it isn't. That CVC thing is apparently the only thing that stands between you using your card and someone else doing the same with your card information. Not even the card itself! Why the FUCK do we even have PIN codes then?! This is even worse than the magstripe and the skimming issues related to it (the magstripe essentially just blurts out your card information to whatever wants to have it, so demagnetize it and don't use the payment terminals who refuse your card on grounds of not being able to read the magstripe afterwards. Your chip should be responsible for that.. but I digress). Credit cards with chips in it that aren't even used. That's what you Americans use? Seriously?!
At this rate, you can keep your fucking credit cards.
