Pour one out for our last VMS/Alpha computers heading to the great bit bucket in the sky.

Was decent hardware in it's day, 20 years ago, but we now run EC2 instances that are faster. 🙃

I'm still at work and gotta drive later, but I'll pour one out later.

Don't we all have our first platforms we'll remember, cherish and defend with our honor?

Oh boy, it always gets to me when it comes to retiring reliable old-timers

@netikras Funny story about the machine in back: it had to be shut down and when it came back up it wouldn't attach to the external disk array. After several panicky hours on a Sunday night it turned out the battery on the raid controller had died; quick run to the 7-11 across the street saved production starting on Monday morning.

    Do they still work?

@Gophyr yep, they were pulled in working condition. The one in front had its covers removed for some reason to get it out of the server room.

@tachoknight would you by chance be looking for a new home for them where they'd still be used? I might know someone who would be interested.

@Gophyr I'll ask my boss what is gonna happen to them and report back. They're in Chicago.

@tachoknight cool, thanks. The reason I ask is that I know someone who was directly involved in the development of the processor inside those things.

@Gophyr boss is out today but back tomorrow, haven't forgotten and will update you when I talk to him.

@Gophyr Sorry, but apparently the recyclers were helping getting the equipment out of the room; went straight into the truck and to parts unknown.
