Wait until ARM SOCs take over. Just forget about buying your favourite graphics card or high-end sound card. You get what's on the SOC, included the mostly lousy driver support that the vendor has hacked into an outdated Linux board support package.
The only computers where it won't matter is Apple because they are buy-and-throw-away shit anyway, which is why rumors say Apple may be switching the Macs to ARM. -
greyfade2136y@b3b3 no, AMD originally called it x86_64, and compiler vendors called it AMD64, then Intel called it em64t, then Microsoft called it x64.

tokumei21316yMy bet is that RISC-V will eventually (hopefully) become more dominant in consumer- and enterprise-grade hardware. That shit is dope.

@tokumei The problem with new architectures: They only become successful in the costumer market if a new type of product adapts them (as smartphones did with ARM) or if they are compatible with a preexisting architecture (just how x64 was x86-compatible). Therefore I wouldn't bet we will see customer geared laptops or PCs with RISC-V architecture any time soon, maybe with the exception of SBCs.

Worst architecture I've seen is Intel's x86 and AMD's x86_64.
Change my mind.
