I'm not a fan of X display managers. I prefer to have my machine boot directly to the virtual console, and if I want to run X, I can start it with startx. Does anyone else do that? If so, what do you put in your .xinitrc?

    I need a GUI-based browser and IDE all the time, so no, unfortunately

    @hash-table

    I think I would be amenable to using a display manager if I used a desktop environment, but I don't.

    i keep X off only on our servers
    on everyday PC i prefer having a DE (actually i need it for a lot of tools)

    anyway, i dunno about you, but sadly i find X & co. a big pile of crap tho
