Hey, you sure we're not talking about the same friend? I pair programmed with him a few times but he still finds it difficult to learn/program by himself. I don't see him that much tho

Don't learn to program because of "the hype". Learn out of interest else you'll fail.

Check out CodingTrain on YouTube. For no programmers, I would argue it's absolutely the BEST source to learn it all. Start with the intro playlist, it's unbelievably complete, easy, fun and if you watch him enough, you'll be able to learn some fucking high level concepts. Good luck!
