2025/6 is the year contrast dies.

Apple, obviously, with liquid glass (AKA, "I can't see what's on top or bottom!")

But now also, trying out Visual Studio 26, everything is just a slightly different shade of gray.

Won't anyone think of the clarity?! We have reached the point where we are so biased towards form over function, that our form is no longer functional! Bring back contrasting shades of colors in UI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They also made the homes in East Germany gray. Before the wall came down.

I see this trend in a lot of things. McDonalds went from a happy place for kids to gray cold box. McSad meals now too.

For me the contrast in liquid glass is perfectly fine. Looks like most people just repeat the same crap that they read on the internet, without having experienced it themselves, to bash Apple.
And Apple is adding a global "reduced transparency" option, in addition to having a high contrast option for decades. But no one is talking about that.

I agree about the 50 shades of grey though. Not only is it low contrast, it’s also ugly as fuck.

@Lensflare it's actually design I would choose bevause I'm bad at it. May hope from designers that they can do better.

@whimsical I‘m also bad at design, but my designs are high contrast ugly instead 😂

macOS went to shit after 10.6. That was the last great release. Everything Lion and beyond has been total shit.

We've been in a decaying trend for over a decade. It's hard to see the collapse of great empires when you living though them.

@Lensflare I got iOS 26 the day it came out and have used it daily every day since. I generally can read it, but the old UI has a 100% success rate and the new glass is more of a 96% success rate. And I don’t even like the way it looks so it just got worse for no real reason!
