Lensflare2131449dI‘m curious why you want to be a manager?
I‘d even reject a pay raise just to stay a dev (and I did) -
djsumdog686849d@Lensflare I'd like to get out of coding and do more planning and architecture. Although at this company, the previous manager did a lot of the coding himself and was bad at delegating. -
whimsical174349dIf I have business solutions on my resume you can just put manager 😂
But I think it's the ideal situation to score the title for now since you already know you'll not be working there for long. Good opportunity to give it a try.
Regarding the two fired people, well, you would always expect that some company collapses when some people are gone but it never happens. I also thought many times, if I go, the stuff is on fire. Sadly, I found out multiple times the companies just continued business as usual.
Even worse, now I'm not working for a few years and nobody in the world cares. I am crazy for thinking before I was important. The replacement is maybe crappie. They don't notice or don't care.
There is no such thing as important people in the world. Only if you are a parent maybe. -

Our manager put in his notice last month. His last day is tomorrow. Earlier this week, our director got on our daily stand to tell us the manager of our devops group was "no longer with the company."
I called a former employee who kept up with him and found out he was fired the day before. Apparently the VP had wanted to fire him years ago for old grudges. Firing a devops manager with 5+ years of institutional knowledge the same week the manager who's been there for 7+ years is leaving seems fucking insane.
I also found out before I started there, an older director, in his 50s, walked into the VPs office one day, dropped his laptop on the guy's desk and said, "I'm retiring," walked out and left his badge at the front desk. Never responded to a single phone call.
This place is a shit show. I kinda want to apply for a manager position while also looking for new jobs. Part of me wants "manager" on my resume, just so I can have a shot at a not-shit management job, but that means I'd have to be in hell for a while at this company.
