Worst of an job in IT? Coming home and having to fix computer still.

I fucking hate it. I fucking hate computers. There might be great stuff like nifty algorithms, grand theoretical theorems about formal languages, Lisps,... BUT that's so far away from the mundane atrocities we have to put up with when it comes to sth like installing a printer.

Newest release of driver won't install a plugin without helpful error. Older release works.. for printing some pages... Then some component (cups-filter) keeps on segfaulting.

This is why i don't own a printer, its not like you need paper copies of things in 2019 anyway.

@ItsNotMyFault In an apprenticeship sometimes they have to hand in hard copies. What I hate more is that Word and Excel are their standard and the in browser solution is so awkward that they inherently force you to have a Windows...

@irene I find that it's cheaper to gift people tablets than it is to buy printer ink.

If some ancient office (usually government) asks for a paper copy, there's this print shop in city I can email my files to.

@bittersweet @irene 4 or 5 years ago I had to send some documents via fax to enroll on an online programming course in one of the biggest universities in Spain. It took me a long long time to find a place from which I could send a fax... So yeah, you should expect for this kind of things to still be necessary. But anyway, you can always print at work

@devTea me too. Could be coz I'm still a book lover, or like the physical contact with the text.. Or simply the better resolution which would only be similar with e-ink?
