I guess the time has come finally. 🤔

I'm now thinking of how to trace a Facebook user's current location. At first I thought of touching Facebook.

But then I thought that I can just write a webpage which will trace the visitor IP. And send the url to the user.

Oh it's not for me. One of my friends who is also a partner and a client of mine is being harassed by his former business partner. He has sued him but the guy is in hiding but still posting bad news on his Facebook profile.

So my friend came to me for help. :3

    My mother was sent one of those scam WhatsApp messages and I found this when deconstructing it a bit: www.geoplugin.net/JavaScript.gp
    Seems to be a really fast IP check... Only works on IP though so for example is giving me an incorrect location right now as our work IP gives our head office location.
    The website seems legit and safe though, was just being used by scammers for its surf and simplicity I guess? Owned by geoplugin.com from what I can tell.

    @hash-table definitely not on the bright side 😁 publicly posted so many things on his account. I can easily trace back his activities up to Dec 2018 😆

    Just be careful, this could be illegal depending on where in the world you are, and you could be opening yourself up to suing should this guy find out.

    @Brolls if he agreed to share his browser location pop-up thingy by himself, it's on him.

    Retrieving IP and locating the city is something google analytics has been doing.

    Maybe I'll put a small terms and conditions text at the bottom of my one page website :3

    @cursee yes, but that’s like saying “someone who clicks a malware link in an email did it to themselves”

    A court of law certainly wouldn’t see it that way, they’d be curious about intent.

    Apparently he is at US 😐
    Guess he run away after the suing.

    Anyway my job is done. I gave the logs to my friend and deleted my app.

    Guess the only option left is submit report to Facebook and make them deactivate his account or something.

    @hash-table late response I know, apologies...but that's interesting, seems it doesn't send data back to mobile so if you switch to desktop mode in your browser you'll see it. Makes me wonder how innocent the owners actually are to its possible usage 😏
