No way to block afaik, but you're definitely not being forced to read anything 🙄
-
Npstr6645yIt's true, I can stop reading devRant all together any time, but I would prefer not to. I enjoy it quite a lot when having some idle time. However I've noticed some low quality/overall negative content coming from a few usual suspects, would be nice to be able to put them on a shitlist.
-
asgs115045yReport profile is the nearest we have. But until there are more such reports from other users, it is pretty much futile
-
Npstr6645yNot sure about reporting. After all, I don't want my subjective judgment to be forced on all the other users.
-
Oh there might be some tampermonkey scripts that let you do this. @Root ?
Edit: seems I misremembered who I've seen talking about tampermonkey. Sorry Root.
just search devRant for tampermonkey :p -
Jilano273045y@Npstr I think it's on the to-do list but no ETA as far as I know. Hopefully it'll come soon since many are waiting for this feature.
-
If Im on it feel free to tell me. But I doubt anyone who is willing to hear criticism is the problem.
-
Jilano273045y@smb26 For me it would a rant that you start reading, half way through you go back up to upvote, then finish reading. Of course, not all quality rants have to be long and not all long rants are of good quality, but you get the gist.
You can clearly see when someone spend time to try and make something correct, versus "LOL ;;;; missing". -
Elyz79475y@Jilano agreed. I'd say the only thing that I find downright annoying is when three separate people post the same dumb "meme" they found on /r/programmerhumor within 24 hours. Like come on guys, if you've seen it there's a high chance someone else also saw it and has already polluted devrant with it. Doesn't take much effort to check the joke/meme tag if it's already been posted recently.
-
Jilano273045y@Elyz Pretty much, but if that kind of people were able to think, they wouldn't do that in the first place ;)
Side note, I wonder by how much that "type" would decrease if the total number of upvotes were to be hidden.
Edit: I was thinking on the account level, not just "rant", but I guess both could be worth looking into. Some subreddits do that for X amount of time to prevent unwanted behaviour. -
Elyz79475y@Jilano I will never understand the mentality behind farming internet points like that. They aren't worth anything? Well I mean on devrant you could get stickers by shit posting I suppose but why would you want devrant stickers if you're not part of the community? It's so weird to me. Like/upvote/validation whores go back to reddit 🙄
-
Jilano273045y@Elyz I share your views on that, but unfortunately, the vast majority don't seem to. Otherwise we would not have Facebook, Twitter, and the likes.
Since those people have nothing interesting about them, all they can do is exactly what you described: push shitty things in your face until you validate their existence. -
@Elyz wholeheartedly agree, i tried creating a site that mitigated that problem, but I guess it just ended up being just another part of the cemetery or social sites...
Is it possible on devRant to block users so their rants don't show up in the feed? There are some attention whores around who's content I'd prefer not to be forced to read.
