I just had to ran to get my train in time. When I sat back I saw this alert on my phonescreen.
That's nice of the Riot app developers to detect frustration like that :)3
So last week I got my second 3D printer. I have done a few prints with it and this weekend I wanted to connect it to an Octoprint instance on my Raspberry Pi. Yesterday everything went great, got some plugins installed, changed all settings within octopi, connected it to my network and this morning I thought let's connect it to my printer and try to print something with it. But everytime I executed my gcode it gave an error about the heated bed not being able to heat up. Even though I did see all communication between the printer and octopi, on both ends.
I've disassembled the build plate to see what could be causing the heating issue. Did not see anything. Strange...
I assembled the whole thing again and then turned on the printer and tried printing again. Hmm, now it does work, why? Me thinking a bit and then realizing that before I didn't hit the power switch on the printer and apparently the Pi gave enough power through USB to turn on the display and do basic logic like doing beeps on touches and changing variables on the screen. The worst thing is that octoprint gave me warnings about low voltage on the Pi even though I was using the official Raspberry Pi power adapter...2
FUCKING @GREGOZOR2121 STOP FUCKING UPVOTING ME THIS MUCH... THIS IS SPAM AND COMPLETELY FUCKING ANNOYING. FUCKING IDIOT.
Ive just finished the Global Game Jam.
We were in a team of three people. An artist, a dev who is in school and knows programming syntax and can make basic things and me worked on a game. A fourth person who makes audio for games w did do some of the musics in our game. The following is the result of 5.5 hours of sleep in 48 hours time.
If any of you also took part in this years Global Game Jam please share your games here :D13
[reminder] At the end of the month I will participate with the GGJ for the first time. Who of you has participated in the past and/or will participate this month?
Ive been planning this for 5 years now but every year I forgot... That's why I placed this reminder. Have fun everyone who will participate.2
I just saw this job opening for visual artists (not me at all, but still curious what kind of person they are looking for).
It's so detailed, a person applying would immediately know what is expected of them and what their role will be. Why isnt this like this for most programming jobs?
Example of programming job opening descriptions:
Knowledge of a backend language (ex: python, java, C++)
Experience with databases
Experience with making and using APIs
What kind of database experience? I have worked as supermarket employee and when I had to order new things I had to use a application to update the database. (Ive done more, but who does not have experience with any kind of database in any way)
TL;DR The artist job opening description is so well described. Why isnt it that way for programmers more often
Hey guys (and girls (and people who dont identify as either of them)),
As some people here might know I am currently in the planning phase of an open source alternative for Thingiverse. After gathering information on multiple platforms Ive heard people really wanting it to be decentralized (a bit like Mastodon).
I really like that idea and thus want to implement it, does any of you have experience or knowledge of decentralized systems programming? I have trouble getting information on how this works. If someone is willing to help me explain a few things like "How does one instance retrieve data from other instances? How does it know a new instance is running somewhere?"
So if anyone knows a great source for information or can and wants to help me via a chat session please respond below7
Am I the only one who thinks the ++ spam is both annoying and makes the ++ of a comment or rant just worth nothing?
Every once in a while I get over 100 ++ by a single user, it is making a shithole from my notifs.
If Im the only one thinking this I will have to learn to get used to it but otherwise I think a x number of ++ to a certain user in a time limit should be implemented.9
So at the end of last month our complete team was fired because restructuring in the company. We have had this countdown running since the first day we got the news. Ive made this photo yesterday so only 3 days and a few hours to go and then a month of sitting on the bench at my work (Im a consultant and work on project basis for other companies)4
I just used a contact form of a local webshop. I couldnt enter my email address because it contains a +.
I contacted them to tell them about this issue and the response was it is because of security reasons. Since when is following specs a security breach? Unless their system is one leak I don't see how its possible.
Am I wrong or did they either lie or have a leak in their system?4
Opensourcing is great
getting other people involved is difficult
Doing a group project with volunteers is impossible.6
A platform where people can share their creations, collection of information sources about 3D printing and other CNC machines. (Alternative to Thingiverse)10
Am I blind of am I unable to post a collab? I rarely use the web interface because I can never find something. but when Im on the collab page I should be able to post a new collab right???7
I have a few questions for the people having a 3D printer and/or are interested in 3D printing.
1. Where do you retrieve your models from? Or do you make them yourself?
2. What is your thingiverse name (if you have it)
3. Personally I'm missing a single good information source where questions can be asked, models can be shared etc. Thingiverse doesn't have a mobile UI and is pretty limited in my opinion. I'm thinking of creating a "social media" platform where people can share their creations, collection of information sources about 3D printing. Would you like to help or is there a good alternative for Thingiverse that I have not found yet?29
My bike chain fell of my bike today. Which has never been a problem because I can lay it back on again, just have to get rid of the chainguard. Fortunately I always have a screwdriver with me.
Hmm there are 4 screws
one screw loose
second screw loose
Why doesnt this screw work? FFS its a torx...
Why in fuck sake do they make a single part of the bike with different screws?
Had to walk the 6KM to the train station and will buy torx on my way back...
Ffs stupid bike designers8
I came across an issue with Visual Studio 2017. I'm unable to collapse multiline comments, there is no - sign in front of it like with code blocks.
At home it is no issue and I can do this without problems.
Ive looked online and all I can find is people not being able to collapse comments in VS Code. And people who want to collapse everything but the comments, but the comments do get collapsed.
Is it a setting I cannot find?4
When you are fired from a project (restructuring and finance related) and before you have free time multiple companies are already soliciting for you....
Why people? I was planning on having a few days off....2
Find a job that allows personal growth on the boss time. This helps you do what you want while doing with being the slave of the customer in between.
In the end your company will profit from it.1
(Not dev, not rant, although it might become one later on)
So as some of you may know, I am colorblind. I always avoid working with colors because of it. Yesterday I decided to do something I've always wanted, painting. And no I don't mean painting on a canvas but miniatures and other 3D models.
I love catan, I love 3D printing and I thought let's print a catan set and paint it myself, without depending on family to ask for colors.
I've got this German paint tubes and used the wikipedia color descriptions to decide what to paint which color.
The following is the result, its a wheat tile (and in the background a wood tile).
Feel free to give tips and suggestions. If I picked a wrong color please tell me so I can update my tactics.
Finally took this step. Yay25
For the guys familiar with 3D printing.
Does your slicer also give you time estimates that are completely off? I'm printing something that would take 10 hours according my slicer. Started it at around 10 AM and its 1AM now and still printing. Halfway during the print I increased the printing speed to 150% because it was way to slow.
Is it just me or are the estimates completely off at each print and the longer the print takes the less useful the estimates are.
Just got a new monitor (HKC NB34C) and connected it to my PC (which didn't have a monitor at the time)
The first thing I see is a green screen of death because of a power outage during a Windows insiders update.11
Ive just bought a domain name for my nephew of now 36 hours old. Ive a really common lastname and it took me 8 years to get a domainname with my name in it.
By the time he is ten (or how old they will be when they get their first email address) he will have his own personalized email and when they learn the basics of programming he can use his own domain for his site.8
Hacktoberfest has started today.
If you have an open source project label your issues with "devRant" or link your project here. This way people new to open source projects can help in a project by people they know.
At my current project we use SVN, but today I noticed a colleague of mine uses another version of version control as well.
Every singletime Ive to remove 40 lines of comments before Im able to follow the code and refactor it.3
In the last three days our team has had 4 people who were the final decider on priority for a single project.
Im staying here until my contract has ended but then I will tell my company they can find a new project for me...1
My current boss. He is never in the office and all he does is telling in which direction he wants the company to go. The backoffice works scrum and they are for any person in the company the people to deal with.
They care for personal growth and also tell you if you can get more money from them for example travel expenses.
The techlead is a female developer. If you are stuck around the place she lives in she lets you stay over or bring you home even though thats a two hours drive.8
Sorry fellow dev from another company, we really appreciated your help even though it was your free day. There is little chance you are also on devRant, but if you are we cant thank you enough debugging the dll provided by you and even supplying us with a dev version in which you made some changes for us to perform some extra tests. The changes looks promising as far as we have seen for now.
This might save our asses.
