    I just had the best idea to solve this problem!

    Instead of having a printed symbol... The UNDERside of the USB stick that you grab onto (nearest to the part that goes into the port) should be slanted so it looks like this. That way when you pick it up you can feel that the slanted part should be in the bottom and that way you will always know!

    I thin I know the explanation: you already know the right direction to put it in, so that's the one you try first. But it's easy to miss the port by a little, and if you can't put it in immediately, you will flip the stick because you think you were wrong. It doesn't go in either after flipping it, so you flip it back, now knowing that that's the right direction, and know you can put it in.
