Wow so WindScribe VPN apparently now has DNS ad blocking sort of like PiHole.

So no more annoying popups and video ads... Or messages from the sites saying I'm using an ad blocker!

And the kicker is I bought a life time subscription for $40 a few years ago.

Guess they were able to grow nice and big.

    40$ lifetime? That's incredible, honestly.

They also have port forwarding now. Temporary one for all paid users, permanent one for those that purchase static IPs.

@filthyranter when I bought it off StackSocial I figured it was some cheap one like BetterNet or something. Just mask the IP, reroute the data. I just needed a VPN, a different IP.

Didn't really have proper app, lots of manual configs like needing an OpenSSH client.

But after a year or two, just kept getting more and more features.

    Wrong.
Popups still happen because they are front end. However they might be empty since their source url is blocked.

Network level adblockers only block urls, and they tend to over or under block shit.

i would suggest you use the network adblocker on its lighter setting and install asblockplus on your browsers to get whatever falls through.

@mundo03 you can't say wrong when the actual experience is: NO MORE ANNOYING JS TRIGGERED POPUPS AND VIDEO ADS.

so I guess they do even better, they scrub all the js "malware" that triggers these.

Go here and try to download a video on your phone. Tell me when you succeed.

When I turn this VPN on, nothing pops, I just click right thru to download

@billgates interesting, I would think popups would still popup.
But then again, popups are not that common anymore.

    Also, succeed!
I use adblock browser on my phone. No ads, no popups

@mundo03 you can't have a popup if the script that creates it has not been loaded in the first place (because it comes from a blocked domain)

@mundo03 hm... I had that before still popped up, guess they updated it.
