Any of you guys (especially German people) know of this online bank N26? It looks pretty cool and I was thinking of getting another bank account for a better money management plan. Anyone's used it before/knows it's safe/good?

    Very bad idea:

    In short, they stopped all telephone support and the rest of the support is so tiny they need weeks to even handle problems like stolen accounts.

    They're famous for their security, or rather the absence of it.

    @ddephor I hope you don't mind if I summarize it a bit.

    @exceptionalGuy Summary of the vulnerability:

    N26 doesn't have classical transaction based two factor authentication with an external TAN generator, but a "trusted device" feature.
    The idea is still valid: With just a password, it should be impossible to make transaction (except this doesn't protect against stolen or hacked devices).

    The security vulnerability was in the unlinking process of the trusted device, which would allow new devices, e.g. by an attacker.
    Additional to the password, some data was requested for unlinking: Town (was it the birth town? not sure), a "security string" printed on the physical credit card and some other data. A normal procedure, would it not have been possible to request this data via the API...

    ---

    Some other points: Some financial authorities did (or still do) an investigation against N26, as they may fail to properly check a new customers identity when opening a new account.
    Unfortunately I do not know the current status.

    I was considering them for the most part for not having to pay fees at the ATM of other banks. At the end I went for ING Diba instead. Almost same but a well known bank.

    Why do you want to switch to N26?

    I'm currently using N26, boon, DKB and fidor. Boon (wirecard) ist perfect for having contacless payment/GPay/ApplePay, DKB is perfect for international payment (no fees), fidor is good as business account. I even have tried KBC.ie, because I could use it for mobile payment in Germany before every other bank.

    So, whatever reason you have to switch to N26, there's an alternative. Even other German banks (norisbank, Commerzbank, etc.) have nice options, too.
