Dev: "presenting my privacy-focused XYZ app!"
App: is 100% online despite features I could build in fucking bash, has integration with 3 other sites
Me: [x] Doubt9 -
Install a little tool on all machines that randomly discards every ~200th keyboard input.
Watch them suffer.5 -
When my Firefox window is too narrow devRant completely shits all over itself and glitches so hard that rants cannot be scrolled anymore unless I make the window larger and go apeshit on the scrollbar until it fixes itself again.
I thought my mouse broke.2 -
(Neo)Vim. Nothing comes close, except Emacs after 2 weeks of configurations, and even then it's not nearly as consistent and fast.
Vim is one of the few programs that don't try to be smart and "help" me, and has the best approach to custom keybindings I've ever seen. -
"Lockheed Martin Will Replace F-35's Faulty Computer System With Cloud-Based Programs"
WAT
So apparently those jets have such a fucked software that the recommended workaround is to use them offline and only reconnect them once every 30 days to keep the system running. It's so bad that two air force bases went back to an older system and the Israeli air force also replaced it for their own F-35 jets.
And somehow those stable geniuses think the correct solution is to make everything more network-dependent and apparently already put Kubernetes on a different line of jets.
I just can't stop laughing.13 -
So flashing microcontrollers gets kinda annoying when you have to simultaneously fight Windows defender's urge to flag the flashing software as Trojan every 30 seconds like a 10 year old kid with ADHD that just discovered coffee.
It doesn't get easier when suddenly only one of three USB ports recognises thumb drives with the current Windows version, and only after two reboots.
Maybe I should just run it in a VM like the three remaining QA testers at Microsoft do, but on the other hand I don't really like the idea of flashing firmware from a VM. Just feels even dirtier.28 -
Keyboard layouts/localization seem like something went horribly wrong and nobody decided to clean up the mess.
And now we have multiple layouts where the fucking alt key doesn't even work exactly the same between them, how is that even possible? And who thought it was a good idea to differentiate between left and right alt, shift and control keys, leading to subtle issues nobody asked for?
In Vim I made a keyboard shortcut with alt and on the British layout it only works with the left alt key, on the US layout on both. Wat. -
What kind of seizure of insanity led the devs of Python to believe that static, mutable default parameters could be a good idea? You can literally share whole arrays between multiple calls of the same function with the same input, and the number of cases where a sane person would intentionally want to do that is FUCKING ZERO.4

Didn't know the new hype operating system "others", but with 704% market share it's gotta be amazing!2

I'm wondering when all the super amazing cloud apps will finally be able to sync notifications between devices. I mean this "problem" is solved for decades with unread emails etc., but somehow companies that get billions of dollars shoved into their arse can't seem to figure out that I don't want to receive all 57 notifications of the past week a second time whenever I turn on my tablet's wifi.
One might think that setting a fucking boolean flag in some database is not that hard when your service can stream 4k video to millions of people, but apparently I was mistaken.1 -
How long will it take until Amazon finally does something against all these fucking review cheaters?
I looked for a spool of simple solder and...the first listed product had reviews for 3D printer filament and the second one's reviews were for a fucking drinking straw. You can still see the customer submitted pictures of their shitty coffees.
Amazon should just discard all reviews if the product name gets edited or something like that. Although at the same time I wonder how many people only look at the star rating if pulling this shit pays off for the seller.1 -
I can't help but think of "Aperture Science Enrichment Center" whenever I hear or read "Amazon Fulfillment Center".2

Not sure if someone posted this already, but on https://stickermule.com/unixsticker... there's currently a deal for 10 laptop stickers for one dollar.2

Nvidia Optimus sucks ass.
Seriously, getting this shit to run on Linux is a pain, and the pain never ends because you need to run all graphics-heavy programs from the terminal with a specific command, otherwise they can't even fucking detect the video card.6 -
Just found out why my computer didn't sound like a jet engine anymore: Both of the video card's fans were dead, and it turns out they're kinda useful for not overheating during a game.
On a completely unrelated note, websites look really shitty at 480p.9 -
The more problems I encounter with Windows the more I have the impression these infested chimps never implemented a real system repair/restoration feature but just faked it with randomized error messages.
Now Windows 10 can't even rollback updates anymore but lands in an infinite boot loop that even a reset to an earlier restoration point won't fix.
And the Windows repair option lists two Windows installations even though there's just one.
Somehow the roles of Linux and Windows have switched nowadays, by now I had to reinstall Win10 5 times on three PCs in the last 12 months.
Windows 8 was shit too but at least it didn't fucking break within a week.3 -
Legend says there is an Atom installation where the "Open empty editor at start" option actually works.
I don't know why but it never worked for me. First the editor always opened a specific file I hadn't edited for days, now it always restores the previous session and opens TWO fucking tabs with the welcome page.
Back to Vim.7 -
Ever since installing Windows 7 a month ago it always showed the wrong time on the clock, no matter what I did.
Yesterday the trial period ran out and suddenly the clock works perfectly. -
Recently I wondered why so many people complained about Windows 10. I had no issues, no crashes, and no bluescreens. Everything was fine.
Then the "anniversary update" installed. After days of restoring partitions, reinstalling, boot repairs and blue screens I realized Windows 10 is now incompatible with my PC.
Well, good thing MS extended support for Windows 7... -
Microsoft, do you even care what your shitty updates are doing or have you just given up?
Not only did the update start immediately after waking up from standby, it also had to brighten up my day by deleting everything afterwards.
Turns out the anniversary update gets confused by dual boot systems and then just deletes all partitions. And apparently they didn't manage to fix this for months now.
Can't wait for the coming "Creator's update", always wanted to see how an exploding PC looks.1 -
So today I decided to change the passwords on some online accounts...
Sony: "Don't use the same symbol twice in a row. Oh, and how about 4 reset emails because the first 3 times it won't work?"
Me: "Okay, this password meets all requirements"
Sony: "I don't believe you lol."
Twitch: "Error: Your password length must be between 8 and 40 symbols!"
Me: "But mine has 24 symbols and the password field shows a green checkbox"
Twitch: "Error: Your password length must be between 8 and 40 symbols!"
Aaaargh! Did they hire toddlers as interns or something?1
