@ChappIO Ubuntu typically doesn't play nice with i3. But welcome to the Linux i3 master race. In time you'll learn to ditch Ubuntu. Glad you made the leap! Be free Brother!!

@KingBiscuit I've been using it for a couple of years. I just have to switch back to windows sometimes.

In your experience, what's wrong with the combination? I haven't really had any problems with it.

My reason for using ubuntu is the convenience of apt.

@ChappIO My primary dislike for Ubuntu is it's far too packaged. It's bundled with lots of things and changes default configuration of things. I'm an arch user, have been for years. Things just work. Ubuntu you have to account for lots of unusual stuff, and you lose all of the functionality the minute you step outside their ecosystem. Pacman is a damn nice package manager too, and the AUR is fantastic. I might be biased.

@KingBiscuit Yea I checked out arch a while back but preferred ubuntu. As long as everything still works I'll probably stick with this setup.

One of the reasons I like it as well is that I can have a similar setup on my servers using an LTS version.

@ChappIO It's an acquired taste, takes lots of setup, but I like the understanding of every element of the system. I use Ubuntu for work however.

@ChappIO It's not that I'm not a Linux fan, in fact I really like it. I just think it's not all everyone makes it out to be, and that hating on Windows is cool because of how Microsoft have been in the past. It's 2016. Soon everyone will be running PowerShell as their default Linux shell because who the fuck wants to piss about with text manipulation?!?!

@drRoss I don't mind windows too much. I'm just more productive on Linux.

To be completely honest I'll probably use linux for about 3 months, run into a major issue and switch back to windows. Then repeat this cycle 2 months later. :p

@KingBiscuit Until you realise PowerShell deals in objects rather than text.

To me, among other things, Linux means no resource-hogging anti-virus software, no forced updates, no slowdown over time, no need to reboot after every little system change, easy software installation, powerful bash scripting... Just so much that I don't miss at all about Windows.
Now if only Photoshop could work properly under Wine, my world would be complete 😊
