nibor48136yIt's going to be interesting to see how it develops. They can still use aosp, but if they are locked out of apps like maps etc. who knows.
My huawei got an update yesterday, wonder if the timing is a coincidence. -
Froot75396y@Robinha That's true but being locked out of the play store is a massive, potentially business-ending, blow to a smartphone brand.
Also I hear that Intel and Qualcomm are blocking them as well as per the regulation. -
VaderNT16176yHuawei? Yeah, they released the P20 Lite (which I bought) with Android 8.0, while P20 and P20 Pro had 8.1 (current at the time). The last two are on 9 now... while the Lite is left rotting with 8.0.
Fuck Huawei. They deserve this. -
Nothing prevents them from letting users control their phones again. Users could install everything by Google if they wanted. But not at the moment because huawei has decided to lock the owner out of their device.
-
Froot75396y@Frederick that's true but making a new mobile OS is a fools errand. It has been tried over and over and it always flops.

EZ solutions for huavei:
1. Make device unlockable and rootable with one click.
2. Make simple to use, as simple so every avarage grandpa can handle "press to install TWRP"
3. Link to OpenGAPPS project
BOOM,
suddenly from worst phones you have one of most open ones and most tempting for geeks like us. And google cant say shiet bc its users installing GAPPS not Huawei. Hands clean, and healthy for market. I like that.
Still, I hate with all of my heart huavei.
I hate it more than I dislike Xiaomis (and I dislike xiaomis a lot but not to level I would do anything against them lul. But never gonna buy one or tell friends to buy one if asked).

So Huawei got pretty much nuked by Google.
I wonder if it's going to stick because it would mean they're pretty much out of the smartphone game if I understand it right
