Google's PageSpeed is recommending that I reduce the size of a 109kb photographic image to 2kb, which would definitely reduce its size...to a blurry, pixelated mess. Is it all just robots over there programming this stuff now? Doesn't anyone know how to sanity check their code around these types of logical inconsistencies?

Dude, if the only issue in your webpage is a 109kb image, you're already ahead of 99.9% of all the websites out there

@endor Definitely not the only issue. I start with images first, though, because it's low-hanging fruit. Just wish Google would give me credit for having achieved a reasonable level of optimization and not insist that all images, no matter their purpose, be freaking 2kb.
