I really want to try freelancing but I’m terribly terrified at the thought of working with a client and ruining the whole thing or not doing a good job 🙍🏻‍♀️

@Cytania Sounds like a plan! Don't forget to always make a contract. Even if it's just "friends and family", people will be people. Square and fair to protect the client AND yourself.

Look at what a fucking tragic toxic revolting murderous mess most world leaders make of their elected office. Then try to process your rant here about lacking confidence. Just do it; you'll be fine. Don't limit yourself. So what if you fuck up a project (I really doubt 100% meltdown would occur, anyways). When I worked for an office supply corporation and a customer would be a few heartbeats away from technicolour apoplexy over not rec'g some piece of furniture or something like that, I'd ask myself if it was a medical necessity. Was anybody going to have their life cut short because somebody else didn't have the right plotter pens? Then, when I worked at a hospital, and people's lives *did* sometimes hang in the balance of my organizational skills, I found I was around many med techs who had passed through the initial stages of freaking out over something.

Hardest part, honestly, is developing a strong enough pipeline to bring in what you want (read: the non-programming part of being self-employed). Develop a reliable stream of referrals and you’re set, though. You *will* have some mistakes and bad clients, but you’ll learn how to deal with them over time.

What ever you do DO NOT USE freelancing sites to start they are a complete waste of time (at the start). Depending on your development work go to local business andmeet them personally make sure they know you are a person and that people make mistakes. Be honest with them but don't be afraid to ask for money. You are providing a service just keep working on it until you are 100% satisfied. I believe in you. Also don't let them low-ball you you might have to talk to 10 people until you find the right client.

Also make sure you and the client are VERY CLEAR in the exact specs of the project and if they add ANYTHING at all charge them for it, even if it's a 5$ feature clients have to learn Everytime they ask for something it costs more

Also a common pitfall that I see is when clients say "I want this in v2" still charge the for that because that will change how you are building the app now.
